Premature Ejaculation

Frisco physician explains premature ejaculation treatments

When it comes to sexual relationships, timing can be everything. Climaxing too soon is not satisfying for you or your partner. It can be frustrating and embarrassing. Thankfully, there are solutions. Male health specialist Dr. Jeffrey Buch of Low T Guru in Frisco offers premature ejaculation treatments to help you avoid early climaxing.

Up to 40% of men experience premature ejaculation (PE) at some point in their lives. If this happens on occasion, it is not a cause for concern. However, regular early climaxes may indicate an underlying problem. When it affects your relationship and your sex life, it is time to seek medical attention.

Premature ejaculation treatments

A medical exam with a male health specialist can help determine the underlying cause of your problem. Common treatments for premature ejaculation may include the following:

  • Behavioral techniques – This can be done alone or with a partner. Stimulate the penis until you are about to orgasm and then stop. Wait 30 seconds or until the feeling passes and then begin again. Continue this pattern a few times before allowing yourself to ejaculate. The goal of this exercise is to help control the timing of ejaculation.
  • Male Kegel exercises – These exercises involve strengthening the pelvic floor muscles. If you are unsure of your pelvic floor muscles, you can find the appropriate muscles by stopping the flow of urine midstream. Hold the muscles tight for a few seconds, release for a few seconds, and repeat. Repeat this series ten times at least three times per day when you are not trying to urinate.
  • Medications – While there are no medications specifically designed for premature ejaculation, there are medications that may have off-label uses. A side effect of some antidepressants is delayed orgasm. Antidepressants to treat PE should only be prescribed by a physician who is familiar with them and with your medical history. Depending on the underlying cause, erectile dysfunction medications or testosterone replacement therapy may also be recommended.
